Wellness Tips for Springtime

Have you noticed times in your life when you have felt a bit of over-the-top anger/irritability/impatience? Maybe some depression/moodiness that just keeps lingering? Or maybe you have experienced some chronic headaches, eye problems, tendinitis, or some digestive difficulties?

If so, then according to Eastern Medicine, your Liver/Gallbladder system may be needing some attention. This is a timely topic as the above-mentioned symptoms can become much more prevalent during Springtime (March 20th-June 20th), but this is also the time of year when we have the opportunity to do some deep healing, and reduce or eliminate the symptoms mentioned above that accompany an imbalanced Liver/Gallbladder system.

Springtime Wellness Tips -What Hinders Health?

How did this imbalance get created? Well, not overnight. Most likely it took many years of cumulative and not very healthy life-style habits/choices. The Liver/Gallbladder system is very much adversely affected by chronic stress that has no outlet or method of diminishment.

Of course, removing the cause of the stress is the optimum choice, but in lieu of that, I mention in my Self-Massage program the importance of a daily meditation practice. One of these days I will be creating and sharing an audio file of a very effective guided meditation (stay tuned), but for now do an online search for some guided meditations - this is a good place to start.

From a dietary perspective, overeating, eating late at night, eating too many fried and fatty foods, too much alcohol, are just a few of the things that can congest the Liver/Gallbladder function.

Liver & Gallbladder Wellness

The Liver/Gallbladder function is responsible for moving the energy (called Chi) throughout all of the energy pathways (called meridians) of the body. It is considered the General of the body, taking the energy we have built and stored in the Kidney/Bladder system (remember from past e-newsletters Dec.21st-March 20th is the time of year when we can best do this) and distributing this energy so we can feel more alive, optimistic, and excited about our lives and the many future possibilities.

The time of year we are now leaving has everything to do with rest and regeneration (like a hibernating bear), and this Liver/Gallbladder time (when it is balanced and healthy) has everything to do with increased creativity, new ideas, allowing for changes in our lives by seeing new possibilities regarding work, relationships, our place in the world.

But this can only happen if we our not experiencing what's called Liver Chi congestion, which translates to feeling some of the emotions and physical symptoms described above.

In my Self-Massage Program, I devote one entire segment to how we can help unblock any Liver Chi congestion, so we can experience this free flow of energy throughout our bodies, and the joy that can bring to our lives.
